So people ask me what the optimal, or perfect, iSelect investment opportunity looks like. And there’s a scientific, or a finance type of answer that I can give you that we’re looking for a company that has an opportunity to have a 10 times return to our investor, or greater, in a period of three to seven years.
So that’s the technical thing we’re looking for. But what excites us at iSelect, what we really like out of our companies, are companies that are solving big problems. We want companies that are going to be the Monsantos of the future. Not in just in the size and the scope, but the impact they have on people’s lives. We want to create positive impacts on people’s lives from what we’re doing.
So we invest in areas like agricultural production. In areas like healthy foods, producing healthy foods for our kids, or solving stage 4 metastasized breast cancer.
And so, yes, these are things that have great investment opportunities, but they’re real problems. They’re not trying to figure out which donut shop all your friends like the best, or how to tell people what restaurant we might be going to tonight in a more fast, efficient way.
They’re problems that impact real people’s lives on a daily basis.
We’ve all been impacted by cancer. We all know people who have had cancer and there’s something to be said for getting up every day and looking in the mirror and saying, “We’re going to go out and we’re going to find a way to beat this thing.”
And that’s what we’re trying to do at iSelect; to solve the big problems out there. Find ways to bring capital to the entrepreneurs who are the real heroes out there getting up every morning, beating away at these things that are problems that you, and me, and everybody else faces in their everyday lives, and that’s what we’re trying to do here.
