Charles R. (Chas) Eggert has 40 years of experience in the specialty chemicals industry with a proven track record of creating value for startups and large global businesses.
Chas is an operating partner focused on specialty chemical investments with Arsenal Capital Partners, a New York City based private investment firm. He is also President and CEO of Solvaira Specialties Inc., an Arsenal portfolio company in St. Louis providing specialty ingredients and formulations to the food industry. Chas is a board director at J. M. Huber Engineered Materials and has earned recognition as a Governance Fellow from the National Association of Corporate Directors.
Before joining Arsenal, Chas was President and CEO of OPX Biotechnologies, Inc., a venture capital-financed company that used biotechnology to produce chemicals from renewable raw materials. During his tenure at OPXBIO, the company grew from a startup to employ 70 people, raised more than $70 million in funding, and formed strategic partnerships with The Dow Chemical Company and Evonik Industries AG.
While at OPXBIO, Chas also served as a director for the Deming Center for Entrepreneurship at the University of Colorado.
His prior experience includes a successful nine-year career at National Starch and Chemical Company (a subsidiary of ICI PLC acquired by Akzo Nobel in 2008) as president of the Specialty Polymers Group, corporate vice president of Food Ingredients – Europe, and vice president of Personal Care.
Before National Starch, Chas worked for the Engelhard Corporation as vice president of sales and marketing for the Specialty Pigments and Additives group. Chas’ career started at Monsanto Company, at the time a global $9 billion revenue worldwide manufacturer and marketer of specialty chemicals and plastics, agricultural products, pharmaceuticals, and food ingredients. During his 20-years at Monsanto, Chas served in a variety of executive management, marketing, business development, manufacturing, and R&D roles within the Detergents and Phosphates, Engineering Plastics, and Growth Enterprises divisions for the company. While at Monsanto, he served as vice president of Monsanto Venture Capital, which operated in partnership with Advent International.
Chas is an alumnus of Washington University in St. Louis, holding a B.S. in chemical engineering and an MBA in marketing and finance from the Olin School of business. He also earned an M.S. in biochemical engineering at the University of Minnesota.
