Synthetic biology is an advancing field of science, by which technological advancements in genome sequencing, DNA synthesis, and genome editing have enabled scientists to view biology as they do engineering. The ability to harness biology from this systems-level approach is incredibly powerful and is already impacting the world of food and agriculture around us. From plant genetics to animal feed to consumer products to ingredients to lab-grown burgers, synthetic biology may soon touch every facet of our food system.
